Robert Noakes

Worked for J&L Steel until laid-off in June of 1982. Older brother was in Air Force at Tyndall AFB and knew police chief in City of Callaway. I moved here and went to the academy and was a police officer for 7yrs. Our Chief retired and the new chief was too political (Told us to do selective enforcement) so I quit in June of 1990. I drove a truck locally until May of 1998 when our youngest daughter graduated and then bought my own truck and my wife and I went on the road running coast to coast. We enjoyed traveling and seeing the sites of this country for 7 yrs. Been in all 48 states and several places in Canada. Got hit by an oversize truck carrying a bridge section in 2005. It totaled my truck and broke my back. Luckily my wife only had a broken arm and numerous bruises and scrapes and was shook-up. Now we're both retired and spending time with our kids and 8 grandkids and now 5 great-grandkids. I also spend time on my ham radio. Call sign is KR4HE (Advance Class). Ride motorcycle with the Christian Motorcyclist Association. My wife of 45 1/2 yrs. died of liver cancer in 2019.

Used to hangout with friends at Pete's Snack Shop before school and for lunch and sometimes after school too. It was a nice place for us to all meet and chew the fat. Those were the fun days. Sure do miss them. In my senior year I went to Hobart half a day and Ivy Tech half a day and than worked the 4-12 shift at Dunes Center Truckstop.
