In Loving Memory of Paul Alan Winslow

June 10, 1953 – October 13, 2025

It is with both sadness and gratitude that we share the passing of our beloved brother, Paul Alan Winslow, of West Terre Haute, Indiana, who left us on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Union Hospital. Paul was 72 years old.

Paul was born in Gary, Indiana, at St. Mary’s Mercy Hospital on June 10, 1953, to our parents, Marian Virginia Andree and Ralph Henry Winslow. The second of four boys, Paul grew up in a home that valued education, curiosity, kindness, and laughter—qualities he carried with him throughout his life.

He graduated from Hobart High School in 1971 and went on to study psychology and political science at Valparaiso University, earning bachelor’s degrees in both in 1975. Paul never pursued those fields professionally, but his love of learning and appreciation for human connection stayed with him always. He had an insatiable curiosity about the world—collecting political memorabilia, reading history, following the news, and enjoying classical music. He loved to understand people, ideas, and the stories that shaped our lives.

Paul lived a life marked by compassion and quiet service. Though he never married or had children of his own, his life was full of family. In the late 1980s, he moved to West Terre Haute to live with our grandmother, June White Andree, and our aunt, Joanne Andree. There, Paul took on the care of the family’s 16-acre property, tending the garden and maintaining the home. He also looked after his bedridden cousin, Charles Worthington, with patience and devotion. When Grandma June’s health began to decline, Paul cared for her at home until her passing in 1989. He later did the same for our cousin Charlie in 1990, our mother in 1991, and Aunt Joanne until her passing in 2016.

Paul’s life was one of service—not one demanded of him, but one chosen out of love. His devotion to family was steadfast, his compassion unending.

Those who knew Paul will remember his sense of humor, his wit, and his big grin. He was always ready with a clever quip or a bit of hard-earned advice, such as that offered to nephew Bob, “Always cook all of the bacon.” Irreverent and a bit funny, but somehow, so very Paul.

He loved a good game of Trivial Pursuit or Canasta around the dining room table, and he never missed an opportunity to photograph the world around him—family gatherings, pets, the beauty of nature on the property he so carefully tended. He found peace and joy in those quiet moments behind the lens.

Paul is survived by his brothers—Ralph Winslow (Deborah), William Winslow, and C. John Winslow (Jane); nieces and nephews—Jennifer Rosato, Robert Winslow (Megan), Kristina Winslow (Erika), Allison Winslow, and Cameron Winslow; and great-nieces and nephews—Marley, Solomon, Sage, and Henry.

He was preceded in death by our parents, Marian and Ralph, our Aunt Joanne Andree, and our cousin Charlie.

According to his wishes, cremation was chosen. A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, at The Strand Theatre, 215 South Harrison Street, Shelbyville, Indiana, with Reverend Perry Samuel Richards, retired Pastor from West Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Paul will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Paul lived a life of quiet purpose, steady kindness, and endless generosity. Though we will miss him deeply, we take comfort in knowing that he lives on—in the laughter of our family, in the stories we share, and in the love that endures.
