I want to thank the reunion committeee for making everything so nice last night for our 50th reunion.  It was very enjoyable, and it was good to see people.  Some I haven't seen since we graduated.

I was disappointed when I couldn't log in to the zoom meeting because the moderator was in "another meeting".    I know you all had a great time!  Linda

Wow!  What a great class reunion!  Kudos to the reunion committee on the fantastic job they did...greatly appreciated.  I thought the tribute of a few minutes of silence while our dearly departed classmates names were read was a very special way to honor their memories.  Brother Rod Warren, brother Dave Galler, and brother Rick McGriffen I  really appreciated your testimonies...hey Rick if God can save you, He can save anybody>>>

It was great to see so many of our classmates show up and get to talk to everybody and catch up.  There were a couple of sad moments but many more happy moments to be had by all.  In life, we have to take the good with the bad and fortunately there are more good moments to focus on.  Dealing with the bad moments makes us appreciate the good moments more.  Working through those bad moments builds character and resiliency in our lives and makes us stronger on the other side.

May the good Lord bless each and every one of you going forward with whatever the rest of life brings you,

Marty Fick

P.S.  I'm glad you all got to see me last night !!!

In answer to the trivia question posted on 9-29-21 at 11:01pm - Peggy Lough has a silhouette picture of her on the front cover of the yearbook. It is kind of a cool looking purple hued side facing picture on the gold cover. On page 12 of the yearbook is a full color photograph of a double exposure of Diane Tomkiewicz's face and a couple walking (backs facing) through a park.  The couple is me and Diane posing for the snapshot taken by Mr. Popovich.  Diane and I were not a couple, just picked for the picture.  Mr. P was going to use it for the yearbook cover but it wouldn't work out right when they tried to get it to print on the texture of the cover.

Our class motto, "Tread not the well worn path, but make your own" has been followed by many of us in the past 50 years and I am grateful for that path taking 136 of you back to Hobart for the reunion last night.  My wife and I really enjoyed it immensely.  For those of you who were concerned about us leaving at midnight and having a 3 hour drive home, we made is safely...

It is a disappoitment that the reunion zoom room attempt failed.  We thought all was in place and that it was good to go.  There was a photographer taking candid photos throughout the night and it is my understanding the proofs of those photos may be viewed and purchased online in the near future.  We will give notice when those photos are available for viewing.  What a beautiful night of love and sharing we had!

Despite a really generous offer by Rod Warren to transport me to the reunion and back to Illinois, I ended up not attending because I got a little worried that my disability might make staying in a hotel while there a little too difficult. Patty Brown Helminski tried to get the Zoom call to work out for those of us not in attendance, but even though  that didn't work out , I was able to talk to several old friends on Facebook messenger. It was  wonderful to make contact with them again. I wish I could have been able to talk to more of them. I would love to continue my contact with any others who would be interested.  If anyone has a Facebook page, please send me a message. I don't imagine there will be any more events coming up for a while, but if so, please let me know. I don't know how easily I can get there, but I promise to try

Thanks for your kind words, Rod.  It took me 50 years to understand that we all work with what God gave us.  I'm glad the reunion was a huge success.  I know you all worked very hard to make it that way.  I can't wait to see the pictures.  Take care and give Frank and Judy a big hug from me when you see them.

I am happy living in Marietta, GA.  I didn't plan on retiring 2 years ago but thanks to Mr. Covid I'm at home.  I am still full of energy and currently I am President of the Marietta American Legion Auxiliary.  Our post is the largest in the state with 1040 Legion members and 360 Auxiliary members.  It is a full time job by itself but I am passionate about helping Veterans and their families.  I keep it fun!!!

I need to ask you all for prayers. I lost my youngest daughter, Belinda to Covid on Dec 1st. She had just turned 39 on the 29th. She was living in Boulder. She had a group of friends she hung out with; they all got vaccinated but not Belinda. Her sister & I couldn't get it through to her to just get an ID for food stamps. She didn't want the government to have control over her. It broke my heart when she cut me off. Haven't talked to her in 5-6 years. I just feel broken.

I'm sorry for your loss Debbie. So many different opinions about the vaccine. Sometimes difficult to know if getting vaccine is right, or wrong. Again, sorry.

My deepest sympathy to you and all your family Debbie.  Life is so fragile.  We do what we can but respect the freedom of others when they don't believe the same as we do.  May God give you peace and comfort and companionship in the weeks ahead as you cope with this tragic loss.

Thank you Bill Berg for your generous donation to keep our Class of 1971 website going strong!  Rod Warren does a great job of keeping us up to date on news concerning our classmates and only through donations can we keep it going.  Thank you again Bill!  smiley

Debbie,

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your daughter.  You are experiencing a parent's worst nightmare and you are in my thoughts at this sad time for you and your family.

Perhaps you can take some solace in that your daughter was able to live in Boulder.  Boulder is one of the prettiest cities in Colorado and the Pearl Street walking mall is absolutely awesome.

Rod, Peggy, Donna, and the rest of the organizing committee.  You all did all the heavy work. Being in Florida, all I could do was show up for the party. It was very easy to write a check, not like the countless hours you all spent putting this event together.

What Rod has done with this class website is great and I like to support great work!

I really enjoyed seeing my classmates and getting to spend some time driving around Hobart.  It has really changed in the past 50 years. The park next to the dam looks great. When we pulled off into the park, I told Cynthia of the time that Mark Wineinger and I were riding our bikes across the dam and my front wheel slipped into the gap between the planks, sank to the axel, and the bike flipped over and I was upside down on the dam walkway and was feeling pretty lucky that I stayed on the walkway althought my neighborhood had been rocked pretty thoroughly.

If any of you find youselves in the Tallahassee area, please let me know and we'll try to meet up. My cell is 850.545.1401.

Thanks for all you all have done and continue to do to maintain our connections,

Bill Berg
