What a great friend Dirk was. Dirk was larger than life. there are so many things I will remember Dirk for but one of the most special things is the many visits he gave me during my hospital stay after losing my leg in 1982 and the many fishing trips we had over the years. When Dirk said he was going to beat his cancer you had to believe him because that man was so determined and hard headed. Dirk was a giant of a man all the way to his last earthly day
Dirk was another good friend from the old neighborhood. He was there for all the baseball games behind Phil's house and, I believe he was the one that started "The Night People"....our neighborhood gang. Every time I ran into Dirk, our conversations always drifted back to the old neighborhood days. He loved the memories as much as me. He is, and always will be, sadly missed.
