In Memory

Don Nelson

Don spent many years in California before moving back to the Hobart area.  He most recently lived in Rensselaer Indiana and passed away in November 2017.  He was survived by his wife Tanya who passed away in February 2021.  I remember Don as a gentle giant who had a great personality and a kind and good heart.  I believe it may have been the 40 year reunion where Don walked around the room the whole time in a Hawaiian shirt and a smile that never left his face.  I have the best memories of Don and will miss him at the upcoming 50 year reunion.

I was sad to hear of Don's passing.

I remember him being a good guy in school.

I don't recall us having classes together. But, we may have.

My sympathy to his family and friends.

"DA" was in all of my Foreman classes.  He was quiet as a kid, but more voluable at our last reunion.

What a nice guy he was...., and, oh, the crazy autos he used to draw.  The man had talent, indeed.

Sad to hear about Don's passing. When we were in the first grade we were both paddled for fighting by the principal, Mr Jordan. He must have thought I had no sense at all fighting a kid literally a foot taller. Actually, it was more of a shoving match. Afterwards, Don and I were friends.  He gave me a number of his drawings, mostly of cars which years later were found in my folks basement.  Don came to our 40 year high school reunion and I found out he was living at his folks home on Lincolnway. I returned to him a number of his drawings and he was beside himself.  Don had been a machinist at a newspaper in California and had done some professional drawing on the side.  He had a talent and was a good guy.  Although we went our separate ways I liked him and have fond memories.
